Restoration of the Silas D. Childs Chapel
After serving generations of Uticans, time has taken its toll on Childs Chapel. The Forest Hill Cemetery Preservation Foundation, a newly formed 501(c)(3) nonprofit, has secured a matching grant for its restoration, thus an additional $150,000 is needed to complete the project. This effort will ensure that the generosity of Silas and Roxana Childs continues to benefit the community for generations to come.

By the late 20th century, Childs Chapel had begun to deteriorate. In 1977, renovations included installing a heating system for year-round services, but time and the elements have continued to take a toll. Today, urgent restoration is needed. This effort is about more than preserving a building. It is about honoring the Childs family’s legacy of generosity and public service.
